ASUU Strike: U3PS Likely To Be Deployed AS UTAS Ranks Second

Mallam Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education, has said that the Federal Government is yet to decide on the payment platform to be deployed for the payment of salaries in universities.

This was stated yesterday by the Minister during an interview on Channels Television.

Recall that one of the core issues in contention by the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is the payment platform to be deployed as the union condemns the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS)  payment platform. The union instead developed the University Transparency Accountability Solution, UTAS, as an alternative.

However, Adamu said that although a decision is yet to be made, initial reports suggest that U3PS which was developed by non-academic staff is ranked the best, followed by UTAS.

Adamu said, “The President is actually waiting for the report of the technical committee on the three payment platforms. I have seen one of the reports but I have not seen the final one. From what I have seen, the U3PS, is probably the best, followed by UTAS and IPPIS,” he said.

The Minister stated that the increment in salaries of university lecturers and other tertiary institutions like Polytechnics and Colleges of Education would not commence with immediate effect.

Instead, the increment will take off from January 2023.

Commenting on the ‘no work no pay policy’, Adamu said that the federal government is not ready to change its decision.

He added, “I don’t think the government would rescind. It is not only the payment of salary that should motivate them to go back. There are many things that can motivate them to go back to classroom.”
