A non-academic staff of the University of Benin, Mr Carter Oshodin has taken his life over his inability to meet his financial needs.
It was gathered that the deceased who works as a data entry staff in the university has recently lamented about his financial constraint, including not being able to pay his children’s school fees.
Mr Oshodin was said to have approached some neighbours soliciting financial help from them prior to his decision to commit suicide.
Recall that the Federal Government had vowed that it would not pay the striking university workers, insisting on its no work no pay policy.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwanbuzor, said, although the command is aware of the unfortunate incident, it is yet to officially receive the report.
“Yes, the command happens to be aware of it by following up events and processes in the state, not that the family of the man who committed suicide reported it officially.”
“The case remains unreported to date but we are aware of it because of our interest in following event in the state,” the PPRO told Daily Trust.
