Canadian rapper Drake is out $615,000 after his hefty bet on Francis Ngannou to win the heavyweight boxing clash against Anthony Joshua backfired.
Drake publicly announced a $615,000 wager on Ngannou via Instagram. Anthony Joshua secured a knockout victory over Ngannou in the second round of their highly anticipated fight in Saudi Arabia. If Ngannou had won, Drake’s potential payout would have been $1.9 million.

Drake is known for placing large bets on sporting events. Fans have associated his support with bad luck for athletes and teams he publicly backs, coining the term “Drake Curse.” This “curse” has allegedly affected athletes like Kamaru Usman, Serena Williams, and even the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team.
In January 2024, he lost a large sum backing Sean Strickland in a UFC fight. His biggest 2023 win came from a $1.3 million payout on Logan Paul’s victory over Dillon Danis. He narrowly missed a $920,000 payout in 2023 due to Israel Adesanya’s loss in a UFC title fight.
