How Bulletproof Jeep Saved Ifeanyi Ubah

The Anambra State Police have confirmed an attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, by unknown gunmen in the late hours of Sunday.

Ubah who represents Anambra South Senatorial District was attacked around the Nkwo market area of Enugwu Ukwu community, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state. The attackers killed scores of persons in the convoy but the Senator survived the onslaught.

The incident was confirmed by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Anambra, describing the attack as unfortunate.

Ikenga stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Echeng Echeng has mobilized men of the force to the scene of the attack.

He said that details of the attack were still unclear, but officers were on ground and normalcy had returned to the area.

Giving details of the onslaught, media assistant to Ubah, Mr Kameh Ogbonna, in a statement said the Senator’s escape was thanks to his bulletproof car which he rode in.

He said, “If not for the bulletproof jeep the senator was riding in, he would have been dead by now.

“We were passing Enugwu Ukwu junction when they hit us from all sides and as I speak with you Obum, the special aide to the senator is dead.

“About seven security operatives were hit by the assassin’s bullet,” he stated. (NAN)

Meanwhile, the governor of the state, Charles Soludo, has spoken against the attack on the lawmaker.

This was contained in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime.

According to the governor, the attack was the “last ditched-effort of a sinking boat” by criminal elements in the state.

He reassured residents that security personnel were working round the clock to nab the perpetrators and ring them to book.

Governor Soludo condoled with the Senator, the families of his aides who lost their lives and the Anambra State commissioner of police, for officers who were killed during the attack.
