Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up about her unconventional relationship with her partner, Paulo Okoye, aka Paulo, revealing that they are both content in their unmarried state.
In an episode of her TV show, Iyabo Ojo TV, Ojo expressed her belief that marriage is overrated, a sentiment shared by Paulo. “I am enjoying my relationship,” she declared. “Luckily for me, he doesn’t believe in marriage either. We feel like it’s overrated.”
Echoing Ojo’s sentiments, veteran singer Charly Boy, a guest on the show, added his own perspective on marriage. “I agree with you that marriage is overrated,” he stated. “My son called me the other day and said, ‘Dad, why can’t people have a contract and say we will just do five years in marriage and if we are lucky and happy, we renew the contract?'” Charly Boy further elaborated on the evolving nature of relationships, suggesting that traditional marriage structures may not align with the individualistic tendencies of modern society.
“It sounds funny, but you know, there are different coping mechanisms because these days, marriage is not what it used to be when our parents got married. Marriage is a little bit muddled up now. And people are a little bit more individualistic than they used to be before. Nobody wants to serve anybody. Everybody wants to get their own. So, that’s where the problem starts.”
