Determined to set a new Guinness World Record, Subair Enitan, a 200-level student of Linguistics and African Languages at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, commenced a 50-hour hand-washing marathon on Friday.
Enitan, who had informed the Guinness World Record of her intentions in June 2023, was given November 24, 2023, to embark on her record-breaking attempt.With the unwavering support of the Students’ Union leadership, the venue for the marathon was set at the OAU campus in Ile-Ife, where students and staff gathered to cheer her on.
Before officially starting the challenge, Enitan expressed her confidence in achieving her goal of becoming the titleholder for the longest hand-washing hours.

“My background and the lessons life has taught me have been motivating me to embark on this wash-a-thon,” she stated. “This experience, though unexplainable, has instilled in me the importance of selflessness. I am confident that I will reach the set goal of 50 hours of hand washing, and by God’s grace, I will emerge victorious. “Despite the overwhelming support from her colleagues, Enitan emphasized the need for divine grace to successfully complete the task. “I urge Nigerians to rally around me as I strive to achieve this remarkable feat,” she added.To ensure Enitan’s success, the Students’ Union President, Abbas Akinremi-Ojo, disclosed that necessary support, including an ambulance, lighting, water, and other logistics, had been provided.
The OAU management, represented by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Professor John Odedire, pledged the institution’s unwavering support in Enitan’s quest to clinch the Guinness World Record. Enitan’s determination to set a new standard in hand washing is an inspiration to others, demonstrating the power of perseverance and self-belief in achieving extraordinary goals.
