Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has officially renamed the Anambra International Airport in honor of the late literary legend, Prof. Chinua Achebe.
During the Independence Day celebration in Awka, the state capital, Governor Soludo announced that the airport will now be known as the “Chinua Achebe International Airport, Umueri.

“Governor Soludo explained the reasoning behind this decision, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and celebrating individuals who contribute significantly to society, regardless of their political positions. He highlighted the enduring impact of Prof. Chinua Achebe, who, although not a political leader or infrastructure builder, played a pivotal role in shaping African literature and identity.
Soludo acknowledged Achebe as a global hero and a symbol of African literary excellence, expressing the desire to collaborate with the Federal Government to fully establish the airport’s international status.
