Sadiq Umar Ruled Out For The Rest Of The Season

Super Eagles and Real Sociedad striker, Sadiq Umar has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury on Sunday.

Umar who recently joined Sociedad from newly promoted Almeria was in action for 37 minutes before being stretched off in a 2-1 La Liga defeat to Getafe.

A statement on the club’s website read “Sadiq Umar suffered a right knee sprain during the Getafe-RS match. After the tests carried out today on the player, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in the right leg.

 “Sadiq Umar will undergo surgery for ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee by Dr Mikel Sanchez next Thursday, September 15, in Gasteiz”, the Club confirmed.

The injury means Sadiq will miss Nigeria’s international friendlies against Algeria on September 27 and Portugal in November. The injury may also cost him Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau, which has been postponed to hold in March 2023.
