Police Rescues Four Kidnapped Victims In Enugu

Enugu State Police Command, along with the State Forest Guard and Neighbourhood Watch Group, successfully rescued four individuals who had been kidnapped in the Aishi-Ette forest located in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement released on Sunday night, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, reported that a fierce gun battle took place between the abductors and the rescue team, resulting in the kidnappers abandoning the victims and fleeing the scene after sustaining gunshot wounds.

During the encounter, one of the victims suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh. Immediate medical attention was provided, and the individual is now in a stable condition and responding well to treatment. All other victims and the rescue team members emerged unharmed.

The victims were originally abducted on June 23, 2023, at approximately 9:30 PM while traveling from Ankpa, Kogi State to Obollo-Afor, Enugu State via Umuopu village along Ette/Ogugu Road. The criminals demanded a ransom of N10,000,000.00 for each captive.

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Ammani praised the team for executing the strategies developed and for adhering to his previous directive to deploy a significant number of personnel and operational resources to address cases of abduction and kidnapping in the state. The statement emphasized that the police force will not relent in its efforts to rid the state of criminals.

Additionally, the CP urged the public, particularly owners of medical facilities, to promptly report any individuals with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station, in accordance with the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017.
