Paris Saint-Germain has dealt Barcelona a transfer blow. The Catalan club’s efforts to re-sign Lionel Messi for the upcoming season is set to fail, going by news from the Parisian giants.
At the conclusion of the current campaign, Messi’s contract with PSG will expire; however, a renewal for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s deal is reportedly being worked on by PSG, according to L’Equipe.
PSG already has the right to extend Messi’s contract for another year, but the French Ligue 1 winners are optimistic that they can persuade the Argentine captain to accept a two-year extension. That would extend Messi’s deal until 2025, at which point he would turn 38.
Messi completed a shock free transfer move to PSG last summer after he was unable to sign a new contract with Barcelona due to LaLiga regulations.
He broke virtually every record during over 20 years at Camp Nou, scoring an incredible 672 goals in 778 games.
Messi has been linked with a return to Barcelona at the end of the season with manager Xavi and club president Joan Laporta keen to sign him.
