The Lagos State government has issued a seven-day ultimatum to property owners along the Ikota River to demolish their illegal structures or face demolition by the government.
The ultimatum comes after an inspection tour of the area revealed that many buildings and fences encroach upon the drainage channel, posing a risk of flooding. The state government also issued a stop-work order to Gravitas company for sand filling part of Ikota River, which is reducing the lagoon’s capacity to accommodate water flow.
