NAFDAC Seizes N12m Worth of Aphrodisiacs and Sex Enhancement in Sokoto

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated cartons of aphrodisiac products and sex enhancement drugs valued at N12 million in Sokoto.

According to Mr. Garba Adamu, NAFDAC Coordinator in Sokoto, the seizures were made by the agency’s patrol team during routine operations across markets in Sokoto and surrounding areas. Adamu reported to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that these products were unregistered and contained hazardous ingredients, making them extremely unsafe.

Additionally, the packaging featured pornographic images, which the coordinator described as inappropriate. He urged the public to avoid purchasing products from unlicensed sources and to only buy registered and safe products from licensed outlets.

“We also call on the general public to report hawkers and dealers of such products to NAFDAC, as well as any adverse reactions experienced from taking such products or other regulated items,” Adamu said.

He noted that some marketers tend to dump expired or nearly expired products in Sokoto markets and neighboring rural areas. Adamu cautioned traders against selling adulterated, counterfeit, unregistered, and expired goods, emphasizing that NAFDAC would continue its enforcement efforts.The operation also targeted agrochemicals and cosmetics stores as part of the agency’s mission to ensure only quality products circulate in the markets. Adamu encouraged Nigerians to always check NAFDAC registration numbers, manufacturing dates, and expiration dates before using any items.Adamu also thanked sister agencies, law enforcement, traders’ associations, individuals, and groups for their support in helping NAFDAC safeguard public health.
