Not less than 17 persons have lost their lives and three others were injured in a car accident at Yaura village on the Wudil-Bauchi Road in the Albasu local government area of Kano State on Thursday.
The incident was confirmed by Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Abdullahi said the accident involved a Honda Accord car with registration number NSR 81 VW, and a Volkswagen Sharon (bus) with registration number NNG 275 XA.
According to him, the command was informed of the incident by a motorist passing by at about 14:20 pm, and a rescue team was immediately mobilised to the scene of the incident at 14:25 pm.

He said the crash happened as a result of excessive speed and wrongful overtaking which led to the loss of control and head-on collision with one of the vehicles bursting into flames immediately.
Abdullahi said, “The crash involved a total of 21 passengers in the two vehicles out of which 11 adult males, five adult females, and one male child lost their lives, while three others that sustained serious injuries involved one adult male, one adult female, and one male child.”
He stated that people who sustained injury have been taken to Wudil General Hospital for treatment, while the corpses of the deceased were taken by their relatives.
