Sporadic gunshots were heard around Zik Avenue in Awka, Anambra State capital as rival cult groups are alleged to have clashed.
It remains unclear at the point of filing this report why the clash took place but reports say that rival cult groups clashed on Saturday morning.
Reports say the residents scampered for safety as the shooting lasted, while the gunmen exchanged fire power.
The incident was confirmed by the state police command spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, noting that the police patrol team had been deployed within the area and the whole of Awka.

He said, “Following the sound of gunshots at Zik Avenue, Awka, police patrol has been intensified in Awka. Preliminary information revealed that the cause of the shooting is as a result of cult related incident/clash.
“The situation is closely monitored and further development shall be communicated.”
The casualty figure could not be determined as at press time.
