Onyinye, a mother of five from the Nanka community, had alighted from a tricycle in the midst of the flooding. She had taken the tricycle after conducting some transactions at a nearby bank.

According to an eyewitness, Onyinye had parked her motorcycle at a certain location and then boarded a tricycle to reach the bank. After completing her banking errand, she boarded another tricycle to return to where she had parked her motorcycle, intending to continue her journey to her destination. However, it was during this ride that the floodwaters obstructed the tricycle’s movement, causing the driver to lose control.

Sensing danger, Onyinye decided to alight in the middle of the flood, hoping to save herself. Tragically, as soon as she stepped down, she lost her footing and fell into a drainage channel where the flood was swiftly flowing. The force of the flood quickly swept her away. Despite the efforts of the other passengers and the tricycle driver to rescue her, they were unable to reach her in time. Several individuals attempting the rescue also sustained injuries due to the force of the flood.
