A privately operated HS25B aircraft by Flint Aero narrowly escaped a catastrophic crash landing at the Ibadan Airport in Oyo State, yesterday.
The flight, carrying several high-ranking government officials, had taken off from Abuja at 6:41 p.m. Among the passengers was Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, along with some of his aides. The crash landing took place at approximately 7:21 p.m., with ten individuals on board. Remarkably, there were no fatalities, though the aircraft sustained significant damage.
It was reported that the pilot had been cleared for an RNAV approach to Runway 22 at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, but the plane skidded off the runway. Prompt and efficient action allowed for the safe evacuation of all passengers and crew members.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated an investigation. James Odaudu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NSIB, confirmed the accident involving an aircraft operated by Flint Aero in a statement provided to Vanguard. He stated that the NSIB has started an inquiry into the cause of the incident, with investigators on site, and further information will be provided as soon as possible.
