The Police in Adamawa State has nabbed a 70-year-old father of three for raping two pupils in the Yola-North LGA of the State.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, in Yola.
Nguroje said the victims were four- and seven-year-olds and residents of Ajiya Stree, Jimeta.
The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola has ordered a comprehensive and clinical investigation into the crime.
It reads, “Adamawa state police command, on April 4, apprehended a 70-year-old man for raping two minors at Jimeta, Yola North local government area.
“The suspect is said to have lured the two victims into his room, a close distance from the victims, and took advantage of them while on their way to a lesson class and had unlawful carnal knowledge of them.
“The incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Jimeta, by the father of the victims, having observed unusual pains from the kids while urinating.”
The Command spokesperson added that the initial investigation reveals that the suspect is a father of three and now lives alone after separating from his wife 10 years ago.
Nguroje stated that the CP is worried about the sad incident, and ordered the Officer in charge of the Family support unit of the State CID to take charge of the investigation and ensure meticulous prosecution.
He urged parents and other members of the public to be mindful of their against, to prevent criminal-minded elements from taking advantage of their kids and report any suspicious characters to the Police.
