Speaking on the development, a government spokesperson said, “motivated by the impolite attitude and the lack of respect for diplomatic customs by the German ambassador, as prescribed by the Vienna Convention.”

Although further explanation was not given, local media reports say Ambassador Kricke’s criticism of the current transition government may have prompted the decision.

Chad, an oil-rich country with 17 million population has been under a transitional military government headed by President Mahamat Idriss Déby since April 2021.

Déby took charge of governance after his father, a long-time ruler Idriss Déby, was killed by rebels seeking to overthrow his government.

The military leader had committed to organised democratic elections within a year and a half but they had been postponed severally.
