Police Arrest Three Health Workers Over Missing Placenta, Suspects Blame Dog

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three health workers in relation to the disappearance of a placenta at the Emure Ile Comprehensive Health Centre in the Owo Local Government Area of the state.

The police say the suspects included a nurse, a health assistant and a security officer but their identities were not disclosed.

the dispute is caused by a missing placenta. While Tunde Ijanusi, father of a newborn, and other family members are asking for the placenta after his wife delivered the baby girl at the hospital, the health workers now in police custody insist a stray dog entered the hospital and took the placenta.

Bemoaning the development, the 23-year-old father said the refusal of the health workers to give him the placenta was worrisome, noting that decisive actions must be taken to ensure that his family is served justice.

He said, “The baby girl was born on June 15, 2023, at the Comprehensive Health Centre in Emure Ile, and since then the health workers that took the delivery had not given us the placenta. We are very worried about this.”

Funmilayo Ijanusi, the paternal grandmother of the newborn, , said the hospital workers claimed that a dog entered the facility and carted away the placenta.

The state Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, while reacting to the development said the case was under investigation.

The PPRO said, “The nurse, the health assistant and the security officer are already with us while an investigation is ongoing.”
