The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Mrs. Toluige Olokoobi’s husband, days after the news of her tragic suicide.
An X user initially reported her death, stating that she took her own life in Benin, leaving behind three children, including the well-known “Mummy Calm Down” boy.

According to a resident in the area, the deceased committed suicide in front of her one-year-old son. Mrs. Olokoobi worked as a medicine distributor, while her husband was employed as a taxi driver and car dealer.

Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, informed BBC Pidgin that the husband discovered his wife hanging with a rope around her neck upon returning from the market. Neighbors were alerted, and she was rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead. Her body has been deposited at the mortuary, and the husband is currently detained for further investigation.
The “Mummy Calm Down” boy, Oreofeoluwa Lawal-Babalola, and his family gained public attention in 2020 when a video of him pleading with his mother went viral. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had commended the boy’s courage, and the family had the opportunity to meet with him.
