PDP Reverses Suspension of Key Chieftains

The National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reversed the suspension of former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, and other party stalwarts.

The party also rescinded the suspension of Ibrahim Shema, former governor of Katsina; Anyim Pius, former secretary of the government of the federation; Dennis Ityavyar (Benue), and Aslam Aliyu (Zamfara).

The party’s NWC also overturned the referral of Benue governor, Samuel Ortom to the party’s national disciplinary committee.

This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the PDP spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, noting that the decision was reached after the NWC “extensively discussed recent developments” in the party.

Ologunagba said, “The NWC recognised the imperativeness of a total reconciliation among party leaders and critical stakeholders for a more cohesive party in the overall interest of our teeming members and Nigerians in general.

“This decision is without prejudice to the powers of the NWC to take necessary disciplinary action against any member of the party at any time pursuant to the provisions of the constitution of the PDP.”

The party urged members and leaders to be guided by the party’s constitution and the “new spirit and necessity of reconciliation, unity and harmony in our party at this critical time”.

Recall that the PDP NWC last week, announced the suspension of Shema, Anyim, Ityavyar, and Aliyu over alleged anti-party activities.

But the members kicked against the suspension, arguing that they were not given a fair hearing.

The decision to lift the suspension of the members follows the removal of the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and appointment of Iliya Damagum as the acting leader.

Ayu’s removal came after he was suspended by his ward in Gboko Local Government Area, LGA, Benue State. A high court issued an ex parte order restraining Ayu from parading himself as the party’s national chairman, a day after his ward suspended him.
