Nigerian Senator, Annie Okonkwo, passed away just days before his son’s inauguration as a House of Representative member.
Okonkwo who previously represented Anambra Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, died at the age of 63.
Okonkwo celebrated his 63rd birthday before his unfortunate demise on Wednesday after being hospitalized. He served as a member of the sixth National Assembly from 2007 to 2011.
The news of Okonkwo’s death has brought profound sadness to his community of Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Tony Uche, a politician and community leader in Ojoto, expressed his shock and grief on behalf of the people. He described Okonkwo as an exceptional individual, known for his philanthropy and contributions to the lives of many.
Uche said, “It’s most tragic and unfortunate. We have lost a great Iroko and Ojoto is grieving. We are in rude shock. We wish it was not true because Agunechemba, as we call him, was recently in Ojoto where he participated actively in his son’s campaigns. During and after the elections, he socialised freely and attended many functions.”
Annie Okonkwo had been anticipated to attend his son’s inauguration as the House of Representatives member for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Anambra.
