A popular pastor in Rivers State, Chidiebere Okoroafor, has been sentenced to death by a High Court in Port Harcourt. The court found him guilty of multiple murders, including that of his choir mistress, whom he had allegedly impregnated.
Pastor Chidiebere Okoroafor, the General Overseer of the Altar of Solution and Healing Assembly, had been standing trial for the murder of his choir mistress, Orlunma Nwagba. Additionally, he faced charges in connection with the deaths of Nwagba’s friend, Chigozie Ezenwa, and her infant daughter, Cresabel, all of which occurred on December 11, 2017.
On June 5, 2023, Justice Stanley Benson delivered the verdict. The evidence presented, along with a confessional statement by Pastor Okoroafor, proved to be decisive factors in the judge’s decision. The evidence provided by the persecutor was able to prove the case of murder against the pastor. Consequently, the court has ordered that Pastor Okoroafor be sentenced to death by hanging or by a lethal injection.

In response to the verdict, the defense counsel, Innocent Ekwu, expressed his intention to appeal the judgment. Ekwu maintained that the defendant did not commit the alleged offenses and believed there were sufficient grounds for an appeal.
