Aston Villa midfielder, midfielder, Philippe Countinho, will miss the 2022 World Cup through an injury.
The Brazilian is expected to miss the World Cup after being ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a quadriceps injury.
Coutinho was facing a battle to be called up to the national team due to a drop in form and lack of minutes for Villa but the injury now quashes any hopes of making it to the global football showpiece.
The midfielder, 30, missed Villa’s 3-1 win over Manchester United and new boss, Unai Emery, ruled him out of Thursday’s Carabao Cup fixture at Old Trafford or the Premier League match at Brighton next weekend.

Coutinho joined Villa on loan from Barcelona last January to great fanfare and even though his performances were mixed, Villa decided to buy him permanently for £17million.
The move for Coutinho was pushed by Steven Gerrard, who was sacked last month, and has yet to produce the results hoped for.
