Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul-Razak, also known as Faila, has seen her ambitious attempt to break the world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual fall short.
Faila cooked non-stop for 227 hours at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, starting on New Year’s Day 2024.The attempt received widespread support from Ghanaians, including celebrities, politicians, and even the military. Faila expressed her gratitude to her supporters and dedicated her “victory” to God and Ghana.
Unortunately, Guinness World Records (GWR) has disqualified Faila’s attempt due to a violation of rest break regulations. Faila’s team coordinator, Kafui Dey, confirmed the disqualification.

Prior to the disqualification, news outlets mistakenly reported Faila’s attempt as successful.These reports highlighted the duration of her cook-a-thon and her intention to break the existing record held by Irish chef Alan Fisher (119 hours 57 minutes.
As of today, March 4, 2024, GWR has not yet released an official statement regarding Faila’s attempt. Despite the disqualification, Faila expressed her appreciation for the support she received throughout the endeavor.
