51-year-old Man Beats Wife To Death In Ogun

Police in Ogun State have arrested a 51-year-old man, identified as Oluranti Badejo, for allegedly beating his 40-year-old wife, Folasade Badejo, to death.

According to Daily Trust, the incident occurred at Orimerunmu, Mowe in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government area of the state

While speaking with the press, the Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Thursday, stated that the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Mowe police divisional headquarters by the younger sister of the deceased.

Oyeyemi disclosed that the deceased’s sister had told the police that she was informed that the husband beat her to death over a minor disagreement.

Oyeyemi said the DPO, Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, quickly dispatched the divisional detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested.

The spokesman further said that the body of the victim is currently laying in the mortuary where further examinations will be carried out.

As at the time this story was reported, it was discovered that Folasade was strangled to death.

Oyeyemi stated, “The lifeless body of the victim was there and then evacuated to the mortuary in Sagamu for post mortem examination. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle as a result of a minor disagreement.

“Having realized that he has killed his wife, the suspect used a hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased, so as to look as if she was electrocuted. Unfortunately for him, their 8-year-old daughter was there and witnessed the whole thing.

“It was the daughter who testified seeing her father strangulating her deceased mother.”

The spokesman quoted the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, to have directed that the suspect be taken to the Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
