2023 U-20 W/Cup: CAF Congratulates Flying Eagles On First Win

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has congratulated the Flying Eagles of Nigeria after they beat Dominican Republic 2-1 in their first group D game at the U-20 World Cup.

Dominican Republic who are making their maiden appearance scored first against the Flying Eagles in the 23rd minute through Edison Azcona from the penalty spot.

The Nigerian side found their way back into the match on 31 minute through an own goal by Guillermo de Pena.

Flying Eagles took the lead in the 70th minute when Samson Lawal capitalized on a mistake by the Dominican Republic defense to give Ladan Bosso team the perfect start to the competition.

Reacting in a tweet on its Twitter handle, CAF wrote, “Congratulations to Nigeria on their win in their U-20 World Cup opening game.

“Another big night on the world stage for the Flying Eagles.”🙌

The Flying Eagles next be in action on Wednesday, May 24 when they will take on Italy in their second group game.

The Italians also kicked started their campaign with a 3-2 win against Brazil.
