Eight persons have been arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly assaulting a policeman in uniform undertaking his duties in the Bariga area of the state.
The defendants were arraigned before a Yaba Magistrates’ court presided over by Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun on Wednesday on five counts of unlawful assault, breach of peace, and theft.

The defendants are Mariam Ajadi, 19, Abidem Adeyemi, 35, Segun Akindutire, 25, Ndubuisi Akon, 25, Victory Ovwigho, 25, Bisola, Oshineye, 24, Ajadi Olalekan, 27, Prince Daniel, 25.
According to the prosecutor, Rita Momoh, the defendants committed the offences on May 2, 2023, in the Bariga area of the state.
Momoh alleged that the defendants beat up Constable Andrew Nuhu, and tore his uniform while he was performing his lawful duty.
The prosecutor also stated that the defendants stole a Tecno Camon 17 belonging to the policeman after the ambush, adding that on the same day, the defendants also assaulted another woman, Oluwakemi Idowu.
The offences according to Momoh contravened and are punishable under Sections 411, 174 (A) (B) (F), 287, 173, 168 (D) (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate, Olatunbosun, admitted them to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
She also adjourned the case till July 3, 2023.
