The convoy of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State was involved in an auto crash on Friday as many people including two Benue State House of Assembly members sustained injury.
The road mishap took place in the early hours of Friday when Ortom and the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were travelling to the Utokon community of Ado Local Government Area in continuation of the party’s governorship campaign rally.

Punch reports that the mishap took place when the driver of a branded bus fully occupied by PDP supporters lost control and ran into three vehicles; a Jeep, a security vehicle, and another bus in the convoy.
Many people among whom were the state lawmakers representing Guma and Kwande West in the state assembly were injured.

The accident which occurred at exactly 10:50 am on Friday also affected other vehicles.
The convoy consisted of motorcade such as the state’s deputy governor, Engr Benson Abounu; Senator Abba Moro; House of Representatives members, and members of the House of Assembly from Benue South district; among other top government and party officials in the state.
Meanwhile, people that sustained injury were taken to the hospital by the ambulance attached to the convoy while the rest continued the journey.
