Lagos Police Officer Shoots Lawyer Dead On Christmas Day

A policeman whose identity wasn’t disclosed attached to the Lagos police command has shot dead a female lawyer identified as Bolanle Raheem.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday morning in the Ajah area of the State.

Reports say the incident took place when the deceased and her family were on their way back from Christmas service.

The car conveying them was stopped by some officers attached to the Ajiwe police station in Ajah.

One of the officers reportedly shot at the car and the bullet hit the lawyer. The police officers were reported to have fled the scene immediately after the incident.

The lawyer was allegedly rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The incident was confirmed by the Lagos police command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, saying that the unnamed assistant superintendent of police, ASP, who shot the lawyer and two other officers are currently in custody.

Hundeyin tweeted on Twitter, “Unfortunate and avoidable incident that was. The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody. They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation.”

The killing sparked bitter reactions from Nigerians on the microblogging platform, Twitter, with several Nigerians calling on the force to urgently discipline officers attached to the Ajiwe police station.

Recall that a police inspector attached to the police station had on December 6 allegedly shot dead Gafaru Buraimoh, a resident of Happy hand estate in Ajah.

The shooting prompted protests which caused a traffic jam in the area.
