Lagos Cashier Disappears With Employer’s N1.8m

Olasumbo Sammie, a 29-year-old cashier, was on Monday arraigned for allegedly absconding with proceeds of shaving sticks and blades worth N1.8m belonging to her employer.

Sammie, who was employed as a cashier in 2022, was reported to have sold the shaving sticks and blades but failed to remit the proceeds to her employer.

The police arraigned the defendant before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State on two counts of stealing.

Thomas Nurudeen, the prosecutor, said the offences went against Section 280 and punishable under section 411 and 287(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

The charge read, “That Olasumbo Sammie from February 1, 2022, till February 2023 at No 74 Docemo Street, Idumota Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District did commit felony to wit: stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”

Sammie was granted bail by Magistrate P.E. Nwaka in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Nwaka adjourned the case till July 5, 2023.
