Sopurum Hotel, situated in the Nkwelle community, a commercial city of Onitsha, of Anambra State, has gone up in flames on Monday.
The cause of the fire that burnt a substantial part of the hotel was yet to be determined as at the time of this report.

Reports say the fire started at about 4:30 am on Monday.
Men of the Anambra and Delta States fire service were already on the ground battling to put out the fire.
Martins Agbili, the Anambra State Fire Chief, could not be immediately reached to comment on the situation as text messages and calls to his telephone line by Punch were yet to be responded to.
However, the state Police spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the fire incident, noting that the situation is under control.

He said, “The situation is under control. The fire started around 4:30 am on Monday and when we got the information, our men were quickly mobilised to the scene and they condoned off the area to avoid any case of vandalism.
“No loss of life and the men of the fire service are on the ground controlling the situation and managing the fire.”
