2023 U-20 W’Cup: Flying Eagles Finds Out Opponents For Quarter-finals On Sunday

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria are set to play South Korea in the quarter-finals of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup on Sunday.

The fixture for the last eight was confirmed after South Korea beat Ecuador 3-2 in the round of 16 on Thursday.

South Korea took the lead through a Lee-Young strike in the 11th minute before Bae Hun-Ho added a second to make it 2-0.

Ecuador fought back in the 36th after Justin Cuero scored a penalty.

However, the Koreans restored their two goal lead when Cho Seok-Hyun scored the third goal three minutes into the second half.

The match took a twist when Sebastian Gonzalez got Ecuador’s second six minutes before fulltime to keep the Koreans on their toes for the rest of the match.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on South Korea on Sunday, June 4, at the Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades, Santiago del Estero at 6;30pm.

The match will mark the third time both countries will meet at the U-20 World Cup.

South Korea beat Nigeria 2-1 in their first encounter in the group stage of the 2005 edition in Netherlands. The Nigerian side won 1-0 in another group-stage match in the 2013 edition in Turkey. Flying Eagles have twice finished as runners-up in the competition (1989 and 2005) while South Korea had their best experience in the competition in 2019 when they lost 3-1 to Ukraine in the final.
