As millions of viewers across the continent continue to countdown to the finale of the Big Brother Naija level up season, Daily Info takes a look at the major contenders and their chances at winning the grand prize.
The seventh season of Big Brother Naija kicked off on 23rd July, 2022 with two levels housing twelve housemates respectively. With the excitement of meeting new housemates, fans were quick to pick their favorites for the show. As with previous seasons, the fans of the housemates were quick to identify themselves with unique names such as Vibryants, Phynation, BeeNavy, Groovers, The tribe amongst other interesting names. With an identity, fans were able to collectively make a statement for their favorite housemates.
The Big Brother brand is popular for its massive influence on viewers who go all out to support the housemates. Social media following has also become a yardstick to decipher a housemate with enough fans to help them go far in the game. However, this may not always be the case as some housemates may just escape nominations through smart gameplay or sheer luck.
In the past seasons, the show suffered a bandwagon effect that had viewers select their winner on the introduction night, and eventually go all out for them. It happened with Efe who won Nigerians over with his street slogan Based on logistics. Singer Laycon had a grand entrance with his jacket laced with shining bulbs, and the rest they say is history. Whitemoney of the Shine Ya Eye Season is also a beneficiary of the bandwagon effect. However, with the introduction of two levels this season, fans were unable to choose a winner on the first night of the show.
As the show gradually comes to a close, one question on the lips of every viewer is “Who will win the Level Up Season? We take a look at some of the housemates that have impressed the viewers so far:
Groovy
Born Henry Olisaemeke, the model who hails from Anambra State is popular with his stage name ‘Groovy.’ He became a fans’ favorite when his relationship with his calm nature which complemented his looks. He is also known for dishing out interesting performances during stage plays and other sponsored tasks in the house. He was however, a subject of condemnation from some fans who saw his decision to move on to another female housemate, Phyna as an act of betrayal after his love interest, Beauty was disqualified. He has gone ahead to survive eviction nights but whether he makes it to the finals is a question the fans have an answer to with their votes.
Phyna
Ijeoma Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna is a 25-year-old actress from Edo State. She prides herself as an Alpha female and has successfully carved a niche for herself as a hype priestess with street credibility. She became a fans favorite with her constant use of slangs and mannerisms that resonate with a vast majority of Nigerians. She has also been a victim of social media abuses after she got entangled with Groovy, who was previously involved with Beauty. She has also gone ahead to survive several eviction nights, proving her strength and acceptability by viewers.
Bryann
Brian Chukwuebuka Chiji, popularly known as Bryann is a singer and songwriter who came on the show to take his musical career to the next level. With a massive fanbase of mostly Gen Zs who identify themselves as vibryannts, Bryann is a top contender for the show. He came to limelight on the show with his versatility and ability to compose songs within a short notice. Bryann, who alongside Phyna, Groovy, and finalist Daniela emerged from level 2, will be hoping to go home with the grand prize on October 2.
Hermes
Born Chibueze Iyele, Hermes isn’t unpopular in the Nigerian social media space as he first made news headlines earlier in the year when he called out the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric hospital, Lagos for not securing his ailing mother enough, leading to her leaving the facility without any trace. On the show, Hermes has endeared himself to several followers of the show with his commitment towards winning tasks and other games. He has also successfully changed the narrative surrounding people who shared similar looks with him. Hermes is looking to develop his art in the entertainment industry if he emerges the winner of the show.
