Unidentified gunmen have killed three police officers in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area, LGA, of Anambra State on Thursday.
The officers are killed at a checkpoint along Umunze-Ihite road in Umunze.

Reports say the gunmen stormed the area and opened fire on the officers, killing three.
The incident was confirmed by Anambra police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga.

Ikenga said the attacks are part of the risks that security agents face in the line of duty.
He, however, said the police will not be discouraged by the attacks, noting that the force has commenced a manhunt for the attackers.
Ikenga said, “The reinforcement teams are already in the area and the manhunt for the assailants is ongoing while joint security patrols have been intensified in the area.”
