Unknown Gunmen Attacks US Convoy In Anambra, Two Dead While Others Went Missing

According to CNN, reports indicate that a United States convoy was targeted by gunmen in Anambra State, located in south-east Nigeria. Tragically, four individuals lost their lives in the attack, including two US consulate personnel and two police officers. Additionally, three individuals were abducted by the assailants. The Anambra police command stated that the attackers not only killed the police officers and consulate staff members but also set their bodies and vehicles on fire.

It’s important to note that the personnel who were killed were not US citizens, as confirmed by both the White House and local police authorities. John Kirby from the US National Security Council clarified that no US citizens were involved in the incident and no harm came to any Americans. However, there were casualties, and it is possible that some individuals were killed.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ikenga Tochukwu reported that when the assailants spotted security forces, they fled with two police officers and the driver of the second vehicle in the convoy. It is emphasized that no US citizens were present in the convoy during the attack. Joint security forces have launched a rescue and recovery operation in the area, according to the police.

The US Department of State spokesperson stated that personnel from the Mission in Nigeria are collaborating with Nigerian security services to conduct an investigation. They also highlighted the importance of prioritizing the safety of their personnel and taking extensive precautions when organizing field trips.
