Defending champions Real Madrid will face Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Champions League while Manchester City were drawn against Bayern Munich in Friday’s draw.
Serie A table toppers, Napoli will battle local rivals, AC Milan and Inter Milan will play Portuguese leaders Benfica.
The winners of Real’s game against Chelsea will play either City or Bayern in the semi-finals, opening an avenue for an all-English semi-final tie.
There is also a high possibility of an Italian team reaching the final for the first time since Juventus managed the feat in 2017, as Inter will play either Milan or Napoli in the last four should the Nerazzuri get the better of Benfica.
The quarter-final first legs are scheduled to be played on April 11 and 12, with Real hosting Chelsea at Santiago Bernabeu before travelling to London for the second leg a week later, and City entertaining Bayern in the first leg at home.
Inter were initially scheduled to host Benfica at home but will now have to play away first to avoid a clash with AC Milan’s match with Napoli at San Siro.
The semi-finals will take place in May with the final scheduled for Saturday, June 10 2022, in Istanbul, Turkey.
