The minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, has resigned from his position.
A source at the ministry who spoke to TheCable said Sylva intends to contest in the upcoming Bayelsa governorship poll, which will be conducted on November 11, 2023.

The source said he will partake in the primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC, noting that the ministry’s staff members have not been formally informed of the development.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on August 21, 2019, appointed Sylva as a minister after he served as the governor of Bayelsa State.
NAN reports that the minister submitted his resignation letter to Buhari. Bashir Ahmed, special assistant on digital communications to the president confirmed the development in a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Friday.
Ahmad tweeted, “Minister of state for petroleum resources, and former Bayelsa state governor, H.E. Timipre Sylva, has resigned his appointment to contest in the next Bayelsa governorship election.”
