Liz Truss To Become New UK’s Prime Minister

Foreign Minister Liz Truss has been named next UK prime minister, taking over from Borris Johnson who was forced to step down in July.

Truss received 57 percent of the eligible votes among Conservative Party members to beat Rishi Sunak, former Chancellor of the Exchequer, who got 42 percent of the votes.

In a Twitter post after her victory, Truss said it was an “honour” to be elected after undergoing “one of the longest job interviews in history”.

“Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead and deliver for our great country. I will take bold action to get all of us through these tough times, grow our economy, and unleash the United Kingdom’s potential,” she tweeted.

She further reaffirmed her commitment to stay true to her campaign promises as a Conservative.

“We need to show that we will deliver over the next two years. I will deliver on a bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy; I will deliver on the energy crisis dealing with people’s energy bills but also dealing with the long term issues we have on energy supply. I will deliver on the National Health Service. But we all will deliver for our country,” Ms Truss said.

Truss will become the third female prime minister of the UK.
