Kano Govt Imposes Curfew Amid Election Tension

The Kano State government has imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the state.

The state government explained that the curfew was necessitated by the need to avoid a breakdown of law and order “following tensions generated from the collation of results of the governorship and state assembly elections”.

The curfew was announced by Muhammad Garba, the commissioner for information and internal affairs, in the early hours of Monday.

According to him, the decision was to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the “already tensed situation”.

The commissioner asked residents “to remain indoors as security agents would not spare anyone or group bent on causing trouble”.
