INEC Declares Winner of Taraba Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Lt. Col. Kefas Agbu (retd) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the winner of the Taraba State governorship election.

Agbu scored a total of 257,926 votes to defeat his closest opponent and the candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Sani Yahaya, who polled 202,278 votes while All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha got 141,592 votes.

Prof. Muhammed Abdulaziz, INEC Returning Officer, who declared the results of the poll said Agbu got the majority votes and satisfied all requirements by law.

Recall that the PDP had earlier raised alarm over suspected plans to tamper with the results following what they described as an “unnecessary delay in the declaration”.

Meanwhile, the governor-elect Col Kefas Agbu has described his victory as a triumph of the people’s will.

According to Agbu, the contest was very tough and, in every contest, there was bound to be a winner.

Reacting to the development, incumbent governor Darius Ishaku lauded the voters in the state for their support for the PDP and urged them to give the incoming governor their full support to make good his campaign promises.
