INEC Declares Winner Of Nasarawa State Governorship Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Abdullahi Sule, as the winner of Nasarawa State governorship election held on Saturday.

Sule, who is the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and seeking a second term in office, polled 347,209 votes in the contest with his closest opponent, David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, securing 283,016 votes while the candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Abdullahi Maidoya, got 11,726 votes.

Prof. Ishaya Tanko, INEC’s Returning Officer in Nasarawa State, collated and announced the election results in Lafia on Monday.

Tanko, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Plateau State, added that the Social Democratic Party candidate, Mohammed Mustapha, scored 9,003 votes.

The Returning Officer added that the total number of registered voters in the state was 1,899,244.

He stated that the accredited voters in the state amounted to 668,978 but the total votes cast were 660,805 while the rejected votes were 6,934.

Prof. Tanko said, “Having satisfied the requirements and having received the total votes of 347,209 by the APC with the candidate, Sule Audu, is hereby returned and declared the winner of the governorship election in Nasarawa State.”
