Gunmen Raze Court In Imo – Second Incident In 24 Hours

Gunmen have burnt the magistrate court in Owerri, Imo State capital on Sunday afternoon.

Reports say that no life was lost in the incident.

The incident could not be confirmed by the Imo police spokesperson, Michael Abattam, as he did not respond to calls and messages when contacted.

Meanwhile, the incident happened hours after a similar development.

Gunmen had on Saturday set ablaze the high court in Orlu Local Government Area, LGA, of the state.

The latest arson on courts follows the torching of several government facilities in the state which has resulted in the loss of lives and properties.

On Friday, the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, for Onuimo constituency in the Imo State house of assembly, Christopher Eleghu, was killed.  

The head office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Owerri was attacked on December 12.

The invaders attacked the INEC building with locally-made explosives, but the police officers stationed at the office were said to have confronted the gunmen, killing three persons in the process.

However, a section of the electoral umpire’s facility was torched.
