Unknown gunmen yesterday, attacked members of the Labour Party in Awgu and Aninri, local government areas of the state, during their ward meetings.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers who stormed the meeting premises with sophisticated weapons, shot sporadically, destroying cars, canopies and chairs, while party faithfuls sustained various degrees of injuries as they scampered for safety.
Confirming the incident, the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Hon Chijioke Edeoga said he received a report of the attack of Labour Party members in Aninri Ward and Awgu ward 1, during their monthly meetings.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach the state police command proved abortive as the Command’s spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
