Flood: Anambra Governor’s Wife Calls For Closer Watch On Children, Pregnant And Nursing Mothers At Holding Camps

As numbers of people displaced by floods continue to grow across holding centres in Anambra State, wife of the Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo has called for closer watch on children, pregnant and nursing mothers who are taking shelter in the camps.

The governor’s wife, who stated this in Awka, observed that it is important to keep closer tabs on the hygiene, nutrition and health needs of this group, considering their vulnerability, especially at this difficult period.

Mrs Soludo, while explaining that nursing mothers, pregnant women and children must be carefully cared for, stated that every safety measure to protect them must also be religiously followed at each of the holding camps.

She praised caregivers at the camps, especially those providing healthcare services, for their dedication and selflessness, and urged them to monitor the dietary needs and sanitary behaviours of residents of the centres, as well the cleanliness of their environments.

Mrs Soludo, who is the Anambra State’s net ambassador, also urged those managing the centres to ensure that the occupants regularly sleep under insecticide-treated nets and drink potable water, to checkmate the spread of sicknesses.

The governor’s wife reassured that both the state and federal governments have prioritized the safety and welfare of the displaced persons, adding that it is her prayer and hope that the floods recede soonest so the affected people could go back safely to their homes.

She also hailed the current efforts by the Anambra State government to make life easier for those affected by the carnage, urging good spirited persons, community and religious leaders and political representatives, to see this period as another right time to extend a hand of hope to the displaced persons through charity and love.
