The government of Australia and Canada have cautioned their citizens to be on high security alert while embarking on travel to and moving around Nigeria.
The fresh alert followed a similar alarm by the US and UK, warning of a likely terrorist attack in Abuja.
Following the warning issued by the US authorities, their citizens and embassy staff in Nigeria were evacuated.
In its advisory, the Australian government advised its citizens to reassess the need to embark on a travel to Nigeria.
According to the Australian government, Abuja and its surrounding cities are at the most risk of being attacked by terrorists.
It stated, “The potential for terrorism, kidnapping, crime, and civil unrest remains high throughout Nigeria. If, despite our advice, you undertake travel within Nigeria, research routes and get professional security advice and support before departing.”

The advisory added that people who have to travel to Nigeria are at risk of terrorist attacks, kidnappings violent civil unrest and crime.
In its warning, the Canadian authorities asked citizens to reconsider non-essential travel to Nigeria, “including in Abuja, due to the unpredictable security situation throughout the country and the significant risk of terrorism, crime, inter-communal clashes, armed attacks, and kidnappings”.
Meanwhile, security operatives have been reported to have activated a high-level alert to forestall any plans by non-state actors to attack the nation’s capital and its surroundings
