Anambra Governor’s Wife Donates Food, Medical Supplies To IDP Camp In Umueri, Anambra East

Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo has urged those displaced by flood and taking shelter in different holding camps across Anambra State to hold unto hope and never allow the current predicament to defeat them.

Mrs Soludo stated this when she visited hundreds of people taking shelter at Unity Hall, Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area.

Addressing occupants of the centre, shortly after inspecting each of the camp’s departments, Mrs Soludo explained that she understood their present hardships, but urged them to stick to hope.

She reassured them of every support that they need while still in the centre, adding that government is doing everything to ensure their welfare.

She also laid emphasis on special care for pregnant and nursing women, children and the elderly, and asked them to always sleep under mosquito nets which were given to them.

She also commended those lending humanitarian services at the centre, including officials of World Health Organization, W.H.O and Anambra State Ministry of Health among others, and asked them to take hygiene seriously and monitor the health status of people in the camps to avoid any health emergency.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike in an interview, said that the governor’s wife’s visit has rekindled hope of people in the centre, providing them with both material and emotional support through the difficult time.

Dr Obidike also said that the state government has been doing a lot to ensure that those in the camp are well taken care of, with adequate food and medical provisions already made for them.

Mrs Soludo visited the centre with food and medical aids, and gave pregnant women medical kits to help both their hygiene and sanitary conditions.
