2023 AFCONQ: How Super Eagles Can Beat Guinea-Bissau – Peseiro

Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has pointed out a key factor that will help the Eagles beat Guinea-Bissau in their 2023 AFCON qualifiers fixture.

Nigeria will host Guinea-Bissau at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja on Friday for their third group A game.

The Eagles sit on top of the group with six points after two games while Guinea-Bissau are placed second with four points.

The Eagles last faced Guinea-Bissau in the group stage of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon which the Nigerian side won 2-0.

However, Peseiro warned that the Guinea-Bissau team is capable of staging an upset, and only maximum performance by his players can assure victory.

Peseiro in his pre-match presser on Thursday said, “Guinea-Bissau was at the last AFCON they currently have four points after beating São Tomé and drawing with Sierra Leone.

“They are a team with good quality, they will try to defend here and rely on counterattack. But it’s now left for us to put our commitments into the game.

“There are no easy matches and if we don’t give our maximum we won’t beat Guinea-Bissau.“

Speaking on his decision to invite Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi, the Portuguese said, “I had more time with the U-20, I watched their trainings and I chose Bameyi because he is a defender who can play centre back and right back. “There are other players of course but if you observe, I chose two right back, two left back, two centre back, four midfielders, four wingers, and four strikers.“
